Unified Microsystems BT-75/BOG

The BT-75/BOG is a dedicated matching transformer designed specifically for Beverage-on-Ground (BOG) receive antennas. Unlike traditional elevated Beverage antennas, a BOG is laid directly on or just above the ground, requiring no supports and taking up a fraction of the space - while still delivering excellent low-noise, directional receive performance on the low bands.

Because ground-hugging radio waves travel at a lower velocity factor than elevated waves, a BOG only 150-200 feet long can match the pattern of an elevated Beverage antenna roughly twice its length, making this an ideal option for operators with limited property. A preamp may be needed in some installations to compensate for the BOG's lower signal strength.

BOG antennas present a lower impedance than elevated Beverages, and the BT-75/BOG is engineered to provide a better match for ground-mounted installations than standard Beverage transformers. It is designed for use with inexpensive, low-loss 75 ohm RG-6 coax - the same cable used for TV service - which performs exceptionally well as a feedline on 160, 80, and 40 meters. A built-in gas discharge tube across the antenna terminals adds a measure of protection against nearby lightning strikes.

Note: This is a Receive-Only Device. Never Transmit into the BT-75/BOG, and always disconnect your Beverage antenna from the radio when storms are possible.
